The national image of the South Korea has undergone qualitative changes in recent decades, from an image of economic backwardness,north-south confrontation, and military dictatorship to a brand-new image of economic prosperity, vitality, and creativity. The changes mentioned above in terms of national image are largely due to the fact that Korean policymakers have masterly transformed their power resources into soft power through effective strategies. In the process of shaping its national image, limited to the relative lack of hard power resources such as its population and national territorial area, the Korean culture, especially traditional culture, plays an increasingly important role.As a single-nationality state,South Korea has a strong national consciousness and attaches great importance to its traditional culture.South Korea has always been committed to using traditional culture to shape its unique and attractive national image, and successfully shaped the elements of its traditional culture. In the construction of national image, the application of Korean traditional cultural resources is based on the joint and active participation of the government and the nationals.By establishing an interactive cultural transmission form with the target public, the traditional cultural resources are transformed into assimilated soft power.Consequently, target public is subtly culturally transmitted, thus fostering a positive national image. The South Korea has successfully integrated its traditional culture, such as Korean cuisine, into its national image, bringing which into a combination of traditional Confucianism and modern culture, and exuding its own unique charm. This article uses Joseph Nye's theory of soft power as the main theoretical basis and analytical tool to analyze how South Korea has successfully made its traditional cultural resources a powerful tool to shape its own image.Specifically, this study attempts to answer: Why can traditional culture be used as a valuable resource for soft power development? How does South Korea skillfully transform its traditional cultural resources into soft power? What role does it play in shaping the image of South Korea?...
