Biographical literature has already become an important part of literature. With the deepening of China's foreign exchanges, the mutual translation of biographical works between China and other countries has effectively promoted international exchanges, and also has provided a platform for the study in this field. This report is based on the E-C translation practice of chapter sixteen of The Queen Mother,a biography written by William Shawcross. This chapter describes the internal situation of Queen Elizabeth's royal family and the political and economic circumstances in the United Kingdom after World War II.The author writes this book by using comments with statements, letters, speeches and poems and other materials. The source text is characterized by its historicity, authenticity and literariness with a simple, concise and elegant language. Therefore,Tytler's three principles of translation, which emphasized on faithfulness,is chosen as the theoretical framework of this report.During the translation, the author found the difficulties of this translation project lies in misunderstanding of the text and unclear and incoherent expression for target language. In order to solve such problems, much effort has been made to study the background knowledge of this book.At the same time, some relevant translation techniques, such as conversion, addition and omission are used to provide a better translation version. In this E-C translation practice, the author has realized that only by conveying the meaning of original sentence accurately,by reproducing the writing style of the source text, and by providing a smooth target language, can the translated text be readable and qualified. |
