A Report On E-C Translation Of The Queen Mother(Chapter 21)

This translation report is based on Chapter 21 of The Queen Mother written by William Shawcross.ST(ST)recorded Queen Elizabeth's visits during 31 years from 1961 to 1992,and showed that Queen Elizabeth made great contributes to the role of the monarchy in maintaining and strengthening Britain‘s links with the Commonwealth,and in fostering good relations with foreign countries.Meanwhile,ST also demonstrated people‘s love and admiration for Queen Elizabeth.The book belongs to the biography of politician,and remarkable achievements have been made in biographical works and their translation in recent years.The translation of biographical literature can not only promote the creation and exchange of biographical literature,but strengthen the exchange and transmission of Eastern and Western culture.As a translator,how to present excellent biographies to domestic readers has become a particularly important issue.In the report,the author points out that ST features vivid language and sophisticat ed layout,and there appear many proper nouns and other languages in ST.The original was arranged and narrated by the timeline of events from a third-person perspective.The author translated the original under the guidance theory of semantic translation and communicative translation,on the basis of which the author will conduct detailed and objective analysis and comparison for cases included into difficulties in translation so as to accurately convey original messages,reproduce the function of ST and have an expressive effective on target readers.It is hoped that this translation report will be helpful to future translation practice of Queen Elizabeth and related researches,and the translation report is designed to share with English lovers and translators.
