Educational researchers have done extensive and further research on foreign language education,teaching and curriculum evaluation.They all attached great importance to the functions of evaluation feedback on education and teaching.Under the current education examination system of our country,it is a problem all educators must explore the way to scientifically and comprehensively evaluate the process and results of students' English learning.They should make the best use of the diagnostic orientation,stimulation and promotion function of the evaluation development.However,in recent years,it has little English curriculum evaluation achievements.Zhang Huaibin(2018)in his research found that the evaluation of primary school English curriculum is conducted still by means of the exam.It is not only inconsistent with the requirements of the national curriculum evaluation standards,but also run counter to the rules of foreign language learning.It is even more difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of the student's English learning truly and comprehensively.The new curriculum standard(2011 version)points out that the student's comprehensive ability is evaluated through the pluralistic methods.Through the evaluation,student's learning interest is stimulated and their self-learning,thinking pattern,cross-cultural awareness ability and personality are promoted.Of course,curriculum evaluation should pay attention to regional differences.There are also large differences in the evaluation methods adopted by schools at all levels in different regions.Therefore,this article is intended to explore the problems existing in the current curriculum evaluation methods in primary school English teaching in Yuyang District,Yulin City.Meanwhile,this paper combines the constructivism theory with English curriculum standards to analyze problems and finally proposes suggestions.This research mainly employs three ways of investigation such as questionnaire,interview and sample of examination paper.In addition,it combines the relevant evaluation suggestions in the English curriculum standards with analysis the strengths and weaknesses of the current status of curriculum evaluation methods in English curriculum teaching.According to this,the optimized curriculum evaluation suggestions are made.This study mainly includes the following steps.First of all,the questionnaire and interview for teachers are conducted to understand the current status of the course evaluation and analyze the contents of the examination papers.Secondly,some problems are found by corresponding to the current evaluation with the requirements of English curriculum standards.Finally,under the guidance of English curriculum standards and constructivism theory,some suggestions for optimizing curriculum evaluation are proposed.Through investigation and analysis,this paper comes to the conclusion that there are the following problems in primary school English curriculum evaluation.First,the teacher's curriculum awareness is weak.It is impossible for teachers to fully understand the mode and content of the evaluation.As a result,in the actual teaching evaluation,various evaluation methods cannot be flexibly used to achieve the course objectives.Second,teachers cannot correctly understand the role of evaluation.Teachers' screening and selection concepts are serious.They tend to evaluate students' learning outcomes with examination scores.However,the English curriculum standard points out that the evaluation is to promote student's learning and teacher's teaching.Third,the curriculum evaluation method is single mainly by means of final examination.A single paper-pencil test cannot fully reflect the students' learning results.The curriculum standards point out that the evaluation method should be diversified.And the primary school stage should be based on formative evaluation.Fourth,the content of curriculum evaluation lays stress on knowledge and skills.It neglects student's emotional attitude and values.Fifth,Teachers use the scores to measure the academic achievement of the students and teaching results.The evaluation concept of the new curriculum standard emphasizes that the purpose ofevaluation is no longer to evaluate or compare students,but to promote of learning and reflect on the teaching of teachers.Finally,according to the problems existed in the curriculum evaluation,this paper will present relevant suggestions and hope to provide some inspiration for teaching practice.
