Salon is a diachronic concept with rich connotation.When it comes to the meaning of"ruelle",salons have been active in the history of Europe for nearly five centuries.So,salon writings were mainly developed under the 17th-century.In turn,the salon writings also literarily explained the aesthetic taste of the salons,namely,the cultural significance of the French salons.Many literary activities in the French salons?or"Salons littéraires"?in the17th-century,the participation of literati and the pleasure of pleasing others,all these elements stimulated the emergence of salon writings.Under the influence of salons,salon writings had their own characteristics.In terms of the writing mode,the salonieres formed a collective creative mode in some salons--the combination of the self-writing ability of the salonieres and the literati grooming ability.Collective writing brought the writing process into the open field and narrowed the distance between the writers and the readers.In this condition,different literati put forward different revision opinions,then formed the case of multiple editions and multiple writers when publishing.In addition,anonymous publishing was also an open way of salon writings.In the need for literary expression,salonieres and noble habitués usually circulated their writings without revealing their identities,so they chose to publish anonymously.These salons,with the leisure atmosphere,the particularity of times,and the demonstration effect of their elegant atmosphere in the upper-class on the external world,also influenced salon writings.Therefore,salon writings were different from other types of literature because of their various intrinsic characteristics.First,the salonieres and many literati participate in a variety of artistic entertainment activities,salon writings had become an art with leisure.That is to say,as one of the leisure ways of salons,salon writings were used to meet the entertainment and recreation needs of habitués.Secondly,the social circles established under the influence of the court not only accepted and recognized by the habitués in the salons,but also became a model for the life of the upper-class and formed a demonstration effect on the external world.They imitated and drew lessons from the salon writings,including the literature criticism.Thirdly,the salons in the 17th-century were of distinct epochal characteristics.The development of literary activities,the norms of physical etiquette and the delicacy of language expression,all made the salons formed the unique places in the 17th-century of France.Therefore,salon writings kept away from the later readers.Readers inside and outside the salons in the 17th-century appreciated the literary works in the salons and understood their literary expression.As one of unreadable works,these kinds of salon writings created a sense of alienation for later readers.Salon writings not only had distinct features,but also stood for the aesthetic taste of salon by the form of literary discourse,namely the cultural significance of salons.The salon writings highlighted the etiquette aesthetics,literature aesthetics and language aesthetics of salons.In terms of etiquette,salon writings expressed the external norms and internal virtues of salon etiquette.In terms of literature,the salon writings,together with other literary activities,such as literary games,conversations and literary criticism,showed the aesthetic taste of the salons.On the language level,the style of salon writings,together with Molière's Précieuses ridicules,showed the language aesthetic paradigm of salons.
