Communicative translation emphasizes the effect of information transmission and the readers' understanding and reaction, attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original. It is very suitable for guiding informative texts and vocative texts. The writer conducted two mock interpreting practices of two speeches on science and technology delivered by Elon Musk,CEO of SpaceX,at the 67 th and 68 th International Astronautical Congress. The two speeches with informative function and vocative function are suitable for communicative translation. In the two interpreting practices, the first was not guided by any translation theory, while the second was guided by communicative translation principle. In the first interpretation, the writer found the following five difficulties and problems: unclear logic of the speaker and language redundancy, words with special connotation, words that differ from Chinese expressions on part of speech, use of passive voice, and use of long sentences.Guided by communicative translation, the writer puts forward methods to solve the interpreting difficulties and better convey the speaker's intention, such as adding explanation, redundancy omitting, and word converting. The result of the second interpretation proves that communicative translation plays an important role in guiding interpretation of speeches on science and technology. It can help the interpreter improve the quality of his interpretation, make smooth and effective transmission of information, and finally achieve a better communicative effect of interpretation.
