Food has always been significant to national economy, people's livelihood and social stability.Food problem is not only social, political but ethical.Food ethics analyses food problems via various approaches and concepts, offering guidance to deal with current and future food problems. The text of the translation practice is from the ninth chapter of The Oxford Handbook of Food,Politics, and Society, which mainly introduces the rise of food ethics.Translation of such texts can provide experience and theoretical support for contemporary Chinese food ethics. This report focused on making case analysis from the present translation based on the framework of “comprehension, expression, and adaptation”(CEA)put forward by Li Changshuan. In analyzing the specific difficulties, the original translation and the revised final translation are compared, and corresponding solutions proposed.“Comprehension” is divided into the understanding of professional and linguistic knowledge. The obstacles to the understanding of the source text are removed through the Internet and the context. In view of the differences between English and Chinese,“expression” is grouped into conversion, semantic extension and translation of the passive sentences for achieving idiomatic Chinese expression.“Adaptation” in this report consists of discarding the original form, readjustment of word order, and using Chinese idioms.“Adaptation” is used not only to find solutions to translation difficulties but also to make the translation better.Under the guidance of the CEA framework, this report has effectively solved the problems in the translation process through case analysis, but there are also areas that need to be improved. In order to gain a thorough comprehension of the source text and make the expression idiomatic,a great deal of research has been conducted;adaptation in translation can only be achieved through proficiency in Chinese and English writing rules.
