Mongolian religious history has always been a hot topic in academic circles at home and abroad.The Political Role of Mongol Buddhism(1977)is a religious and historical work written by American Mongolian scientist Professor Larry William Moses.The book has rich contents and abundant research materials.And it systematically introduces the development of Buddhism in Mongolia from the 4th century to the 20 th century including the incipient introduction of Buddhism in Mongolia,the development of Buddhism in the period of Mongolian Empire,difficulties encountered in the process of transmission and so on.The book has a wide influence abroad and has been praised by the academic community.This thesis is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The report selects three chapters(Chapter Four to Chapter Six)of The Political Role of Mongol Buddhism to carry out translation practice.The selected part is mainly about the introduction of Lamaism into Mongolia and the church system of Lamaism.Because the source text is a historical and religious work,there are a large number of technical terms and notes on religion in the text.Besides,the language is objective and there is a certain degree of grammatical difficulty in understanding the contents of the writer's works.In the whole process of translating,the translation difficulties are discussed in three aspects:(1)the translation of religious technical terms into Chinese;(2)the accurate understanding and translation of attributive clauses and adverbial clauses in the source text;(3)a display on the stylistic style of Chinese Translation of religious and historical work.In this translation report,several examples in the source text are used to show the translation difficulties to the readers,and the difficulty would be solved one by one.Specifically,the translation report adopts the following three methods to solve the translation difficulties:(1)Translation methods such as transliteration,annotation,conversion,and omission;(2)an objective,complete and accurate understanding and translation of alarge amount of notes in the source text by referring to parallel texts;(3)in accordance with the idiom of the target language,the translation can embody the objective and rigorous style of historical texts through the choice of words and sentences.
