The study and acquisition of Chinese as a second language have become a current trend in Vietnam. It should be noted that the organic combination of the concepts "teaching" and "learning" is the key in the process of learning a second foreign language. Therefore, this study include a detailed description of typical mistakes made by Vietnamese-speaking learners in the process of learning Chinese. Moreover, through collecting a large number of linguistic data the basic causes and patterns of typical errors are analyzed in the present work. This research is divided into two parts: the first part is the analyze of typical grammatical errors;the second one is series of advices for improving the level of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Based on the point of view of Zhou Xiaobing described in "Study on the common grammatical errors",in the first part of the research we analyze the typical mistakes made by Vietnamese-speaking learners in the process of learning Chinese. The object of study is divided into two categories: “native Vietnamese”-speakers and “Vietnamese with Chinese origins”-speakers.According to Zhou Xiaobing's theory, there are five major types of errors: true errors and false errors;errors and mistakes;conspicuous errors and inconspicuous errors;semantics, discourse and pragmatics errors;overall errors and sectorial errors.Further,in our study we will try to investigate the causes of these types of errors.Focus on the second part mainly dedicate to the process of teaching, cultural and practical methods of teaching Chinese to Vietnamese, the phenomena of positive phonetic transfer between Chinese and Vietnamese languages, the influence of Cantonese, and other important factors for our research questions. In the process of teaching Chinese as a second language, teacher plays a very significant role: the students' ability to express their own thoughts in a foreign language largely depends on a teacher. If teacher's explanations are inattentive and inaccurate,it will lead to the students' disability to learn necessary material correctly.Furthermore, the lack of teaching skills is also one of the reasons of the mentioned problem. In the course of studying Chinese, students can also experience cultural influence. It should be noticed that cultural education plays one of the key parts of studying Chinese. In the end,we have to mention that the study was undertaken with help of such methods as analysis, deduction and induction. This work is the first research of the typical mistakes made by Vietnamese-speaking learners(“native Vietnamese” and “Vietnamese of Chinese origin”)in the process of learning Chinese. And pointing out the features of these two categories of learners,we also offer several pieces of advice for teachers working on teaching Chinese language in Vietnam. These suggestions aim at raising a level of complementarity and interactive quality between “teaching” and “learning”.
