There is much research on the frequent errors made by foreign students learning Chinese. Most of it is based on native speakers of English and from South East Asia. That perspective seems quite limited. Research on for example how students from Kyrgyzstan use the Chinese language in everyday communication is almost non-existent. This research paper uses data from previous research to identify main errors which explain why Kyrgyz Chinese language users make errors in practice. In addition, it also uses data collected by means of a questionnaire. This research paper looks at how Kyrgyz Chinese language learners use the Chinese language in daily life. The errors made by Kyrgyz learners are classified into three groups, namely appellations, greetings and farewells. All of them seem to be a result of the influence of the mother tongue in the process of learning a second language as well as a byproduct of the culture and customs of Kyrgyzstan. The main aim of this research is to prevent the incorrect use of the Chinese words in the process of communication. With that in mind, it offers practical advice to teachers who teach Chinese to Kyrgyz learners. Apart from selecting materials that emphasize teaching the communicative language and improving the teaching methods, it recommends focusing on Chinese culture.
