The author participated in the research project on British Engineer Accreditation System assigned by China Association for Science and Technology during the period from July 2016 to March 2017.The effort was aimed to provide an engineer accreditation model for policy makers of competent authorities. The author was responsible for retrieving, organizing, translating(from English to Chinese)and editing relevant information from official websites of the British Engineering Council and its affiliates.Based on this translation practice, the author analyzes the translation work from the perspective of the Linguistic Adaptation Theory in this report. The theory provides four angles for examining adaptation in the process, namely, contextual correlates of adaptation, structural objects of adaptability, dynamics and salience. The report, from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory, gives a detailed analysis on the examples selected from the translation material-basically website contents, discusses how the author made adaptations in the translation process in a conscious or subconscious way,and finally evaluates the translation work. The report has four sections, namely, introduction of the translation background, description of the translation process, example analysis and the summary. The four sections demonstrate the author's translation work and adaptations made in the process, showing the guidance of the Adaptation Theory on translation. |
