This project is composed of two main parts:the translation practice and the report.The original text the translator chose is Is Everyone Really Equally?coauthored by (?)zlem Sensoy and Robin DiAngelo.It offers a collections of detailed and engaging explanations of key concepts in social justice education,including prejudice,power,privilege,racism and so on.After contacting the publisher with an email,the translator made sure that this book has no Chinese version yet.The translated parts are Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 which deal with racism in both US and Canadian society with clear defi_nitions and convincing examples,with the purpose to appeal to all readers to correctly understand racism and pursue social justice and equality.During the first translation,the translator found that in this book there are many terminology related to politics,law,history,culture,and also long and difficulty sentence---the longest one reaches up to 79 words,which makes the first translation obscure and ungrammatical to understand even for the translator herself since the readers are not taken into consideration.Based on this,the translator resorted to Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory which highlights "the communicative functions of translating",aims at "the closest natural expression",and focuses on "the response of the receptor." Under this theoretical guidance,six strategies were adopted to improve the first translation so as to produce the ideal version that communicate the meanings of the original text clearly to the readers.Inspired by Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator concluded that:translators should not always be constrained by the expressions of the original text.Instead,different adjustments should be made under different circumstances so as to get the closet natural translation,thus the target readers can understand the translated text in the same manner as the original readers understand the original text.
