With the accelerating economic globalization and increasingly frequent international cooperation, the communicating and integration among countries are gradually deepened in economy, politics, culture and other fields.Interpreting,as the bridge connecting various languages, plays an important role in advancing globalization, facilitating multilateral exchanges and promoting all walks of life to be internationalized.Interpreters are required to have good bilingual proficiency, memory, background knowledge and mentality so as to ensure the interpreting quality and effectiveness.Interpreting strategies play a key role in improving interpreting, since a solid grasp of skills allows interpreting to be better comprehended. This paper is based on the consecutive interpreting practice the author conducted in a seminar on movie and TV media. It aims at discussing the existing problems in the practice and the application of the principles in functional equivalence guided by Nida's functional equivalence theory and provides several commonly used interpreting strategies, hoping to offer some help and inspirations in enhancing interpreting and researching interpreting skills. The theoretical framework of functional equivalence, the interpreting task and the process are introduced. In the case study, the author discusses the existing problems in the interpreting practice, including problems in information equivalence, syntax and pragmatics, and analyzes the cases guided by three principles of functional equivalence, containing information transfer, natural and smooth expression and similarity in information receptors'response, and then concludes the effective interpreting strategies, namely, amplification, simplification, word formation and reformulation. The research finds that adopting proper interpreting strategies will enhance the interpreting quality and contribute to a better effect of interpreting on the audience, thus realizing a relative equivalence of response between SL and TL receptors. In this way,it can be proved that Nida's functional equivalence theory is feasible to be applied in interpreting.Guided by the criterion of TL receptor's response, the interpreting will be better understood and accepted, thus achieving the goal of interpreting and embodying its communicative feature.
