With the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, the pace of Chinese culture going global is gradually being quickened.Minority traditional culture in Yunnan and its surrounding areas is a significant component of the Chinese culture and its publicity translation plays a vital role in the translation work of the Chinese culture.Minority Traditional Culture and Agro-biological Resources in Yunnan and Its Surrounding Areas is one of the research findings of the National Basic Task Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It emphatically introduces how 10 minorities(Bai,Hani,Dai,Lisu,Lahu,Va,Jingpo,Naxi,Yi,and Zang)in Yunnan and its surrounding areas utilize and protect agro-biological resources in their living customs, and highlights the role, status and performance of these agro-biological resources in minority traditional culture. How minorities in Yunnan and its surrounding areas utilize and protect agro-biological resources is attributed to the diversity of the traditional national culture and the living customs in the process of generating offspring. The translation of minority traditional culture not only helps the national culture maintain its inherent cultural identity in the era of globalization but also helps enhance the speed of Yunnan ethnic culture's going globe-wide,promote Chinese cultural soft power, and establish the identity of the Chinese minority culture in the international communities. This report is composed of three stages: pre-translation,translation process and post-translation evaluation.First of all,the author applies translation tools such as specialized dictionaries, online term bases and translation software to create the term base of the source text.In the process of translation, under the guidance of Nida's “Functional Equivalence” theory, the author adopts translation methods such as literal translation, free translation, annotation, voice conversion and structural reorganization to discuss the application of the theory into translation practice from the perspectives of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence. In the post-evaluation stage, according to the feedback from the supervisor,an agricultural specialist and MTI classmates, the author rethinks and polishes his translation. At the end of this report, the author reports the major findings that it is difficult to achieve complete equivalence in the process of the publicity translation of minority culture. In other words, translators should try their best to achieve equivalence at the semantic level, based on which they may give consideration to formal equivalence.Additionally, the author summarizes the problems when translating technical terms and culture-loaded words. The possible solutions like using Latin and transliteration are employed to solve the problems. The author also points out the limitations and areas for further improvement in this report, which provides some references for the publicity translation of culture.
