In the era of international integration, publicity texts have turned into an increasingly crucial channel for outsiders to get access to China. Although there are some studies on publicity materials translations, functional equivalence theory has not been adequately touched on as they are expected to. This dissertation attempts to explore the practical significance of Nida’s theory and to provide some useful translation strategies for rendering Chinese publicity texts, aiming to facilitate international communication. The dissertation first comprehensively expounds the C-E translation of political publicity materials from aspects of its definition, characteristics, and previous research in the related field. Then it elaborates Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, which is regarded as its theoretical framework, as well as the theory’s applicability to C-E publicity translation. Finally, a detailed analysis has been made at lexical, syntactic, and textual levels on the author’s translated version of "Issues on the Formation of ’One Country, Two Systems’ Theory" under the guidance of Functional Equivalence. On basis of the systematic analysis, the author proposes feasible strategies at lexical, syntactic and textual levels, such as literal translation, omission, division, addition, etc. so as to guide the future translation.
