Since the beginning of the 21 st century,with the development of economic globalization,English has been used by more and more people as an international language.The importance of oral English is undoubted.The primary school stage is an enlightenment period for cultivating students' language ability,which is of great significance.However,in the compulsory education stage,domestic English teaching often prefers to instill language knowledge rather than teach oral English for a long time.Students' ability to test is significantly stronger than the practical language ability.The test-oriented teaching on the child makes the phenomenon of “high scores and low ability” and “dumb English” prevail in English learning.Oral English teaching in primary school is not enough,and students' interest in speaking English and their oral performance need to be improved.Traditional teaching methods don't bring effective oral teaching.According to the current situation of oral English teaching in primary school and the oral English teaching concept proposed by the new English curriculum standards,the author proposes Activity Teaching Method which can activate student's interest.So,the author tries to use the Activity Teaching Method to study primary school's oral English teaching,this thesis addresses two research questions:1Can the application of Activity Teaching Method enhance the primary school students' interest in oral English?2Can the application of Activity Teaching Method improve the primary school students' achevement in oral English?The research subjects were 64 students from two parallel classes in the sixth grade of Lanzhou Yueyaqiao Primary School.The study lasted for two months,both of the two classes were designed as the experimental class and the control class respectively.Activity Teaching Method is used to conduct oral English teaching in the experimental class,so as to improve primary school students' oral interest and oral achevement,and the control class does not exert any teaching influence.Through oral tests,questionnaire and interview,the author investigated their oral interest and oral achievement and collected experimental data.SPSS 22 statistical analysis software was used to collect and analyze the data before and after the experiment.A conclusion can be drawn the Activity Teaching Method is conducive to activate students' oral interest and it is also beneficial for improving primary school students' oral achievement.At last,the disadvantages of this study are written,and some suggestions for future research are given in this paper.
