The structural differences between English and Chinese complex sentences reflect the differences in thinking patterns between China and the West,as well as the differences in language habits between China and the West. There are a lot of complex sentences in the textbooks of law. Many scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of research and translation practice on the translation accuracy of complex sentences in English and Chinese. This translation practice report chooses Business Law,a legal textbook compiled by Smith & Roberson,as the object of translation practice, and explores the application of English-Chinese complex sentence pattern transformation in Chinese translation from the perspective of Skopostheorie.Skopostheorie of functionalism breaks through the shackles of traditional translation methods and provides basic theories for the translation of legal textbooks. Its principles of purpose, coherence and fidelity provide corresponding strategies for the translation of legal textbooks.Combining Skopostheorie with translation practice is of practical value to the Chinese translation of legal textbooks.Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, this practical report deeply analyses the difficulties and problems in the process of translating English legal textbooks into Chinese, explores the accuracy of translating English-Chinese complex sentences from the perspectives of syntactic structure, syntactic level,subject-rheme relationship and logical relationship, and puts forward corresponding strategies and methods.Aiming at the problems found in translation practice, such as the inconsistency of English-Chinese syntactic structure, redundancy of source syntactic hierarchy, unclear subject-rheme relationship of source language and inconsistency inter-sentence logical relationship, under the guidance of Skopostheorie, this paper proposes the reshuffling of broken sentences, the splitting of broken sentences and logical reorganization as solutions. The inconsistencies of English and Chinese syntactic structures are mainly manifested in the inconsistency ofjuxtaposition structure, subordinate structure and compound structure, the redundancy of source sentence hierarchy is mainly manifested in the redundancy of juxtaposition, noun clause and attributive clause, and the ambiguity of subject-rheme relationship of source language is mainly manifested in the ambiguity of participle phrase, adjective phrase and prepositional phrase. The inconsistency inter-sentence logical relationship is mainly manifested in the inconsistency structure of passive sentences and the inconsistency meaning of passive sentences.Breaking sentence reorganization mainly focuses on parallel structure, subordinate structure and compound structure;Breaking sentence separation mainly focuses on parallel sentence, noun clause and attributive clause;Focus transfer mainly focuses on the focus transfer of participle phrase, adjective phrase and prepositional phrase;Logical reorganization focuses on the knot Passive sentences are constructed from passive to active and meaningful passive sentences from passive to active.Case studies show that, under the guidance of Skopostheorie, the corresponding translation strategies have certain explanatory power and effectiveness in the translation of legal textbooks into Chinese, and play an obvious role in improving the quality of translation. It is hoped that this report will be of some enlightenment and reference value to the translation of English legal textbooks into Chinese.
