Stereotypes refer to people's stereotyped cognition of specific social groups and their members' traits and behaviors. In recent years, researchers have begun to focus on facial stereotyping, which refers to the cognition of the stereotyping of facial features of members of a specific social group, while facial expression stereotyping refers to the cognition of the stereotyping of facial expressions of a specific group. For example, people tend to think that women are more likely to show happy faces and men are more likely to show angry faces.Rich and poor are very important dimensions to social classification, and researchers have confirmed that people have different stereotypes about the group of rich and poor.on the basis of existing studies, this study first verified the adult subjects' facial expression stereotypes of the adult from poor and rich groups, and then further explored whether the adult subjects also held the same facial expression stereotypes as adults for children from poor and rich families.Study 1 first tested adults' facial expression stereotypes of rich and poor adults.Experiment 1a used the imagination task and found that the adult participants thought that the rich were more likely to show positive emotions, while the poor were more likely to show negative emotions.Specifically, the rich were more likely to show happy faces, while the poor were more likely to show sad faces.Experiment 1b took reaction time as an indicator to verify the results of experiment 1a again. It was found that after the happy face was activated, the response time to describe the rich idiom was shorter, but after the sad face was activated, the response time to describe the poor idiom was faster. On the basis of study 1,study 2 explored whether adult participants also held the above stereotypes towards children from rich and poor through the imagination task.Experiment 2 first explored the facial expression stereotypes of 10-year-old children from rich and poor families, and found that adult participants still believed that 10-year-old children from rich families would show more positive emotion-happy mood, but they did not believe that 10-year-old children from poor families would show more negative emotion-sad mood.Experiment 3further explored the facial expression stereotypes of 6-year-old children from rich and poor families, and found that adult participants still believed that 6-year-old childrenfrom rich families would show more positive emotion-happy mood, but they would not believe that 6-year-old children from poor families would show more negative emotion-sad mood.Experiment 4 further explored the facial expression stereotypes of4-year-olds from rich and poor families, and found that adult participants still believed that 4-year-olds from rich families would show more positive emotion-happy emotion, but they did not believe that 4-year-olds from poor families would show more negative emotion-sad emotion.Based on the above results, this study found that adult subjects hold completely different facial expression stereotypes for the rich and poor adults, that is,they hold positive facial expression(happy)stereotypes for the rich adults and negative facial(sad)expression stereotypes for the poor adults.adults still have facial stereotyping of children from wealthy families,it showed that children aged 10,6,and 4 from rich families were stereotyped with the same happy faces as those from rich adults, but children aged 10,6,and 4 from poor families were not stereotyped with the same sad faces as those from poor adults.
