In recent years,a great number of foreigners come to China because of its profound culture and diversified geographical environment.Lanzhou,as a strategic city in the Silk Road, has played an important role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and the West in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. On May 20th,2018,the author was entrusted by the China International Travel Agency of Gansu Province to translate chapter two of the book Travel in Lanzhou into English. There are10,066 words in the source text, and the author of the report was required to finish the translation task within 30 days. The materials include tourism resources of Lanzhou, emerging attractions of the tourism industry, interpretation of tourism propaganda signs, specialty foods. The author should meet the requirements of the cross-cultural awareness, habits of language expression,etc..Besides,this translation task is selected from the second chapter.Although this part gives priority to the introduction of the city's tourism resources,it reflects profound culture from different places.According to the Newmark's classification of text typology, the source text contains two types:informative and vocative. The greatest challenge the author faced is a large number of vocabularies with local characteristics, such as culture-loaded words,four-character structures. Also, there are lots of historical figures, long sentences in the source text. Therefore, the author paid great attention to the study of the source text, understanding of background of the source text, selection of the parallel text, choice of translation methods, and translation tools employed in the process of translation.Guided by Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the translator analyzes and discusses the translation methods that are employed in examples. The translation problems can be divided into three levels:lexical, syntactical and discourse levels. The author adopted different methods to accurately reproduce original information of the original text. The significance of the report is to analyze some typical examples, and then generalize translation methods and skills about tourist texts in the process of translation.Importantly,it would spread history and culture of the“Silk Road Town”worldwide.
