This is a report on the translation of Diabetes Mellitus in Developing Countries and Underserved Communities written by Sam Dagogo-Jack,in which Chapter 2 is the source text.Chapter 2 mainly introduces the physiological and pathological mechanism of diabetes, the progress of studies on diabetes prevention and treatment, and the importance of type 2 diabetes' s prevention in developing countries. The source text belongs to medical text, which has the features of formal tone, objective statement, normal language and abundant terms.According to Peter Newmark's text typology, the source text is an informative text.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the translator pays attention to the feelings of the target readers to the source text, and strives for the translation to be clear and lucid. This report analyzes in detail the difficulties at the lexical and syntactic levels, namely, acronyms, amphibious words, passive sentences and attributive clauses.Guided by the communicative translation theory, the translator makes a glossary, and uses such translation skills as extension of word meaning, voice conversion and division to solve these difficulties accordingly.
