The translation report is based on a project from We Maven Language Services Co.,Ltd.where the author has practiced for several months. There are more than ten thousand words in the original text and approximately seventeen thousand Chinese characters in the translated version. The translation is completed by the author within 3 months. The project principal is Yin Liang who is a manager of project department in the company. She is in charge of drawing up plans, communicating and coordinating as a reviewer in the post translation work. The translation of the original text requested by the client is Improving Medication Adherence in Cardiometabolic Disease which comes from the core periodicals Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The paper is mainly about medication adherence in cardiometabolic disease.Medication nonadherence,a major problem in cardiovascular disease, contributes yearly to approximately 123,000 preventable deaths, which is partly attributable to only about one-half of CVD patients consistently taking prescribed life-saving medications. This paper summarizes the scope of CVD nonadherence, describes key U.S.Food and Drug Administration initiatives, and identifies potential targets for improvement. The report mainly consists of description of the translation task, literature review, explanation of the translation process, application of text typology theory into case analysis and conclusion.Guided by Newmark's Text Typology Theory and communicative translation method, this report focuses on how to improve the translation version with the help of such translation theories and strategies at the lexical level, the syntactic level and the textual level.According to Newmark's Typology Theory, different translation methods should be conducted in response to each text type.He pointed out eight translation methods(i.e.literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, communicative translation, idiomatic translation, free translation,word-for-word translation and adaption translation).Among them, semantic translation and communicative translation are the most important.Newmark mainly categorizes texts into expressive, informative and vocative types.Medical paper belongs to informative text.In this practice report, typical examples are selected to test if use of different strategies which include omission, inversion, division, restructuring, addition and combination can make the word meaning accurate, sentencestructure optimal and textual relation coherent. As a result, use of these strategies in translation help to realize the purpose of communication. This practice report tests and explores the strategies and methods of medical translation based on Newmark's text typology theory.By analyzing and summarizing the characteristics and rules of medical English based on typology theory and communication translation method, the application of different methods and skills make the translation version achieve similar effectiveness between original readers and target readers. It further tests the practicability of typology theory and translation methods applied to the medical translation and provides reference for the medical translation.
