Nowadays, the new medical research achievements emerge continuously. The Chinese translation of medical English has become an important bridge for Chinese medical workers to understand the development trend of international medicine. In this thesis, the translator discusses the translation of the medical text on the basis of the translation of the Excerpt 66 and Excerpt 67 in Part 13(Future Directions)of the Textbook of Diabetes from the perspective of Register theory developed by Systemic Functional School(SFS)represented by Halliday. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One covers the source and content as well as the purpose and significance of this translation task.Chapter Two introduces the preparation before doing this translation.Chapter Three presents a brief introduction of Register theory, and the definition of Register(Field,Tenor and Mode).Chapter Four analyzes the Register of the source text by analyzing the Field,Tenor and Mode of the source text.Chapter Five discusses how to realize the Register(Field,Tenor, and Mode)equivalence by presenting the case analysis, which contains the translation of common English words with medical meaning, compound words, acronyms, and the transliteration of drug name;the translation of passive constructions and the translation of may;and the discussion on the selection of technical terms and normative sentence patterns in the target text. The last part of this report is the conclusion. This translation practice proves that the guidance of Register theory can help to minimize the translator's subjectivity,so as to be more faithful to the source text and ensure the quality of the translation.
