This practice report is based on the simultaneous interpretation of a lecture at Stanford University in 2013,given by Dominic Barton, the global managing director of a well-known consulting firm Mckinsey. The lecture has several characteristics, which are fast speech speed, standard pronunciation, strong logicality and professional content. The purpose of the practice is to analyze the interpreting practice of high-speed source language,so as to draw valuable countermeasures and provide valuable guidance and reference for later translators.Theory of sense emphasizes the equivalence between source language and target language, rather than simple word-to-word and word-to-word translation. This practice was guided by theory of sense and Gile's effort model to analyze the target text from the language level. In the practice, the interpreter used simultaneous interpretation techniques such as ellipsis, conversion and induction to omit pleonastic expressions, change from noun to verb and summarize the main idea of the speech so as to make the translation more fluent and more consistent with the Chinese way of expression. This practice has clarified the mistakes and shortcomings of the interpreter. In the process of practice, the interpreter has exposed the shortcomings such as improper use of personal pronouns and the need to improve their qualities. It is found in the analysis that the word formation still needs to be improved. The reasons for these shortcomings are the fast speed of the source language and lack of English and Chinese ability. However,it has also clarified the direction of the interpreter's efforts. The interpreter should enhance English and Chinese ability and practice more to improve psychological quality. This practice also provide some inspiration for future interpreters.
