Basic Criminal Law is a textbook,which systematically analyzes American criminal law with comprehensive contents and a lot of typical cases.The textbook is recognized by American legal community.And it is characterized by the strong logicality,precision and integrity.This translation report explored the translation of sentences with non-finite verbal phrases in Chapter Six of Basic Criminal Law on the guidance of skopos theory that was proposed by Hans J.Vermeer.The skopos rule was the first rule to follow in the translation of the sentences with non-finite verbal phrases in Chapter Six of Basic Criminal Law;the coherence rule dealt with the word order of the non-finite verbal phrases in the sentence.With the fidelity rule,the translation report showed the loyalty of the translation of the sentences with non-finite verbal phrases.The report adopted different translation skills: shift,division,linear translation and synthesis.Accordingly,this translation report applied to the translation of the sentences with non-finite verbal phrases.The translation of Basic Criminal Law hopes to be conducive to promoting the exchange of legal culture and knowledge between China and foreign countries.It is expected that the exploration and analysis of the translation of the sentences with non-finite verbal phrases is helpful to relevant workers and students.
