Chinese high school students do pretty well in the English listening,reading and writing.However,few students have good oral English competence.With the traditional examination-oriented thoughts in mind,most English teachers and students neglect the importance of oral English.The task-based language teaching(TBLT)is firstly put forward in the 1980 s.TBLT encourages the students to fully participate into the class activities and replaces the tedious and passive teaching environment of traditional oral English teaching methods.This thesis is based on constructivism theory and communicative language teaching theory and takes Nunan's TBLT as a model to study the application of TBLT in oral English teaching in a senior high school and the effects of TBLT to the oral English teaching.This thesis intends to answer the following questions: 1.What is the general situation of high school students' oral English competence in Yangzhou area? 2.Do high school students have the awareness of oral English competence and strong desires to speak English in the English class? 3.Do English teachers have the basic awareness of the implementation of TBLT in English class teaching in high schools of Yangzhou area? 4.Does TBLT still have values and work in current high school oral English teaching? The author selects two classes of Grade Two as the research subjects in XX High School in Yangzhou.The author mainly adopts the questionnaires,the oral tests,the observations and interview to study the implementation of TBLT in the researches.The author also uses the SPSS 19.0software to further analyze the data collection of the researches.The research results show that through the comparison between the experimental class which is based on TBLT and the control class which is under the traditional teaching method,the experimental class has a more significant difference in thestudents' grades than those in the control class.TBLT can help students to improve their oral English competence a lot to some extent.It also has positive effects on the teachers' oral English teaching and helps them achieve better teaching efficiency.
