With the rise of globalization, legal resorts have gained more attention in resolving international disputes.Legal translation can help more foreign-affiliated domestic legal talent understand foreign legal matters and legal systems outside of China. Also, legal translation provides more learning opportunities to foreign-affiliated attorneys, which supports China's legal development and use for reference as well.Using Static Equivalence Theory as a guide, and taking the Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District Opinion as the original in the English-Chinese translation practice, this report discusses the effectiveness of Chinese translation method of adverbial clauses in legal texts. This report highlights three problems by analyzing the translation practice process:the differences of adverbial clauses between Chinese and English in cohesive devices;the differences in adverbial clause position;and the vagueness in adverbial clauses.Respectively, this report also provides solutions to each problem. For differences of adverbial clauses between Chinese and English in cohesive devices, the solutions are:translating attributive clauses and object clauses into adverbial clauses;programmed translation;and sense group supplementary translation. For the differences in adverbial clause position, the solutions are: dividing subject sentence and clause;reorganization;and inverted translation. For vagueness in adverbial clauses, the solutions are: logical reasoning;explication of logic relations;and comprehensive translation. This practice of Chinese translation of legal text and its analysis demonstrate that the guidance of Static Equivalence Theory increases,to some extent, the effectiveness, quality and preciseness of the translated text.
