This is a report on the translation of C-Theory: Philosophy of Chinese Management(excerpts). The book, based on Yijing,is written by Chung-ying Cheng, with a purpose of combining Chinese traditional wisdom with the western scientific spirit. It attaches great importance to the integration and combination of management functions and Chinese cultural resources in order to bring out the best in each other, which facilitates the birth of “C-Theory”.“C-Theory” has great significance for the development of Chinese management and for the management of Chinese enterprises. This report, based on a translation practice of nearly 20,000 Chinese characters, explores translation strategies of converting specific clauses in the source text into adverbial clauses,non-restrictive attributive clauses and emphatic structures in the target text under the instruction of information structure theory,in order to keep the information focus of both the source text and the target text consistent and make information flow much smoother. In both Chinese and English, the basic patterns of information structure and types of focusing devices are basically the same, yet the frequency of different focusing devices is distinct. On the basis of comprehensive understanding and analysis of clauses in the source text, the translator employs appropriate focusing devices and translation strategies to optimize the reproduction of information focus in the target text. This report has five chapters.Chapter one is to give a general description of the translation task including its significance and requirements.Chapter two is to describe the translation processes including the processes of preparation,while-translating and proofreading.Chapter three is to introduce the information structure theory.Chapter four is the case study based on the information structure theory.Chapter five is to present the conclusion, limitations and research prospect of this translation report.
