Vocabulary is the basis of language learning.Vocabulary learning is important throughout the whole process of English learning. However, the traditional vocabulary teaching method focuses on cramming teaching and tends to rely on students' mechanical memorizing in vocabulary learning. As a result, students are weak in autonomous learning ability, which in time makes that students gradually lose their interest in vocabulary learning. Therefore,it is very necessary for teachers to explore an effective vocabulary teaching method. At present, many in-service English teachers in China have applied the guided learning plan teaching method into their English teaching. The guided learning plan teaching method is a teaching method in which the learning plans based on students' learning background are applied throughout the process of teaching and the teachers and students cooperate to complete the teaching tasks.Based on constructivism and humanism, this study is meant to explore how to improve students' vocabulary learning effect by combining the guided learning plan with junior high school English vocabulary teaching. The study tries to address three basic questions as follows:(1)What effect will the application of guided learning plan have on the junior high school students' interest in vocabulary learning?(2)What effect will it have on students' vocabulary scores?(3)What is the students' attitude of junior high school students towards vocabulary teaching under the guided learning plan?In order to address the three research questions above, the author took 80 students from two classes of Grade 8 from a certain middle school in Changling County of Jilin Province as the experimental participants and conducted a four-month teaching experiment. There were 40 students in the control class(CC)and 40 students in the experimental class(EC).The author first conducted a pre-questionnaire in both classes before the experiment in order to investigate the current students' attitudes towards vocabulary learning. And then a pre-test was conducted by the author so as to ensure that the vocabulary level of the two classes is roughly the same.During the vocabulary teaching experiment, the traditional vocabulary teaching method was used in the control class while the guided learning plan is used in the experimental class. The vocabulary teaching experiment in EC follows three steps: preview plan before class, guided learning plan in class and consolidation practice after class. Finally, the post-test was conducted to explore whether the guided learning plan could improve junior high school students' vocabulary performance. After that, the post-questionnaire and interview were conducted in the experimental class, aiming to explore the students' attitudes and thoughts towards this new teaching method. After data collection,SPSS 21.0 software was used to analyze and draw a conclusion of the study. The results in the experimental class show that, compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching method, vocabulary teaching under the guided learning plan can improve students' learning interest and promote students' autonomous learning ability. The vocabulary teaching under the guided learning plan is comparatively more effective and it can improve students' vocabulary grades. What's more, the students have changed the negative attitudes towards vocabulary learning. This study may provide new and practical methods for vocabulary teaching in the future.
