A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Passive Voice In Business Texts

Business etiquette,as a code of conduct,reflects mutual respect in business activities,and its translations attract more and more attention.Therefore,it is of great importance and significance to accurately translate the materials of the business etiquette into Chinese and provide it to the relevant personnel for reference.This paper,based on the modem English grammar and information theory,discusses and analyzes the translation of the passive voice in The Book of Business Etiquette,and uses the case analysis method to draw the following conclusions:At first,through the reading and translation of the article,it is found that different forms of passive sentences have significant differences in expressing and latent meaning,and each form should be translated in different methods in order to achieve the standard of faithfulness.Secondly,from the perspective of information focus and discourse function,this paper divides the passive sentences of text into be-passive voice(which expresses the neutral meaning),get-passive voice(which emphasizes negative meaning);long passive voice and short passive voice.Meanwhile,based on the scales of passiveness,the passive voice is divided into core passive voice,semi-passive voice and pseudo-passive voice.All of them have different ways to be translated into Chinese through translation methods,such as amplification,liberal translation,division and so on.Thirdly,through the analysis and summary of the concordanced sentences,the translation and processing of the various types of passive sentences are clearly and accurately stated,hence the reference and help for the research and translation in this field.
