Arthur Charles Clarke is a representative writer of the “Golden Age of Sci-Fi” in America and one of the “Big Three” of science fiction together with Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein.Liu Cixin is one of the most famous science fiction writers in contemporary China.The three-body series is his master work,including his novel “The Three Body Problem”,won the best novel award of the 73 rd “Hugo Award”.Since its publication,the three-body series has attracted many readers with its vivid plot twists and profound connotations.This article aims to analyze the acceptance and inheritance by Liu Cixin from Arthur Charles Clarke in creative ideas,creative contents and methods of creation,and find out the differences between Liu Cixin's Three-Body Series and Arthur Charles Clarke's science fictions by means of comparisons of these two writers' works.On this basis,this paper is supposed to discuss the localization and research value of Liu Cixin's Three-body problem series,and shows the unique charm of Liu Cixin's Three-body problem series.This paper consists of three parts.The first is the introduction.which briefly explains the origin and significance of this paper,summarizes the research status of Liu Cixin and Arthur Charles Clarke's science fiction works at home and abroad,and discusses the research methods and research ideas of this paper.The second part is the body part,which is divided into four chapters.The first chapter defines science fiction,teases out the development process of science fiction in China and western countries,and further analyzes the influences of western science fiction on the development of Chinese science fiction from a macro perspective.The second chapter discusses the acceptance and inheritance of Liu Cixin's Three-body problem series from Clarke's science fictions from four aspects:alien image building,creative concept,humanistic care and narrative strategy combining with the analysis about specific works.The third chapter analyzes the differences betweenthe two writers in the imagination space,the construction of utopia,and the consciousness of salvation,and explores the reasons for the differences between Chinese and western writers in the perspectives of science and technology,social and development,and religious culture.The fourth chapter expounds the localization of Liu Cixin's Three-body problem series.from three aspects: Chinese elements,humanistic feelings and narrative strategies.On this basis,this paper discusses the value of studying The three-body series to the development of Chinese science fiction literature and Chinese science fiction films,as well as the significance of improving the civic scientific quality.The third part is the conclusion part which mainly summarizes the thesis and research significance.
