A Report On The Translation Of Race,Gender And Culture In International Relations: Postcolonial Perspectives (Chapter Nine)

This is a translation report.The source text is excerpted from Chapter Nine of Race,Gender and Culture in International Relations: Postcolonial Perspectives edited by Randolph B.Persaud and Alina Sajed and Chapter Nine is written by Randolph B.Persaud.The selected chapter focuses on the security studies from the perspective of postcolonialism,and also mentions democracy,peace,sanctions,humanitarian intervention,terrorism,war and other aspects,showing the oppression and exploitation of weak countries by western post-colonial countries,and calling for scholars who study in postcolonialism to pay more attention on this issue.This report,guided by hermeneutic approach to translation,lists two major translation difficulties encountered by the translator in the process of translation--translation of long sentences and prepositions,and gives corresponding solutions and examples.The translator mainly employs inversion and division when processing English long sentences.In the translation of prepositions,the strategies of omission and part of speech conversion are mainly used.Finally,the report summarizes the experience gained by the translator and the problems still to be solved in the process of translation,so as to remind the translator herself to improve translation levels and provide reference for other translators.
