Translating Long Sentences From English Into Chinese

This is a translation report.The source text is "Translation in the East Asian Cultural Sphere:Shared Roots,Divergent Paths?" in the Asian Translation Traditions.It aims to explore the similarities and differences in history that shaped translation norms in Japan,Korea and Vietnam,which all adopted Chinese characters as their written script and were greatly influenced by Chinese culture."Translation in the East Asian Cultural Sphere:Shared Roots,Divergent Paths?" is an academic paper,and there are many long sentences in terms of the syntactic structure.When conducting academic research work,it is often necessary to study English academic works to get to know the international academic trends.Since not everyone can read the original English academic books,these books need to be translated into Chinese.As the language style of academic works is formal and the sentences are complicated,one of the difficulties in translating is to deal with these long sentences.Based on this translation practice,the report analyzes the application of the methods of translating English long sentence into Chinese proposed by Zhang Peiji to academic papers written in English.In this report,I first review the translation process,and elaborate on the preparation work before translation,the translation tools,the process,the progress and the details of each stage.Then,the case analysis of Zhang Peiji's methods of translating English long sentence into Chinese is carried out based on my translation.Finally,this translation practice is summarized in order to help translate academic papers in the future.From the case analysis,it is evident that Zhang Peiji's methods are applicable to the source text of the project.Moreover,I add the method of augmentation and omission in order to translate the long sentences in a better way.
