A Study On The Art Of Poetry By Li Guangtian

Li Guangtian(1906-1968),one of the three well-known Han Garden poets as well as a distinguished essayist in modern Chinese literature,made significant accomplishment in novel creation,educational philosophy and folk literature research.To some extent,Li Guangtian is versatile in modern Chinese literature.Since 1941,Li Guangtian had taught industriously in National Southwestern Associated University while focusing more on literature theory and literary criticism.During that time,he published a series of influential works on literary criticism with regard to the situation and creation of Chinese literature.The famous writer and historian Sima Changfeng even listed Li Guangtian into the "Three Li",putting him on a par with two renowned Chinese writers---Li Jianwu and Li Changzhi in the 1940s'literary criticism domain.The Art of Poetry,published in December,1944 by Chongqing Kaiming Book Company,was LiGuangtian's most important collection of new poetry comments and literary criticism.In this book,LiGuangtian shows a strong sense of responsibility and the spirit of creation in his literary and art criticism on the status quo of Chinese new poetry creation,which made a contribution to the development of Chinese new poetry.In this thesis,the author attempts to probe into,confirm and conclude the contribution of The Art of Poetry on the basis of specific historical and cultural context and predecessors'study.This thesis consists of introduction,conclusion and other four chapters.The introduction mainly expounds the history and current situation of research on The Art of Poetry,as well as the author's research methods and creation.The first chapter discusses about how The Art of Poetry pays attention to new poetry itself from the perspective of ontology.The second chapter elaborates the criticism on new poetry from The Art of Poetry by means of close reading.The third chapter analyses the characteristics of commenting on poetry in The Art of Poetry.The fourth chapter concludes the academic contribution of The Art of Poetry.In the end,the author makes a conclusion of Li Guangtian's book---The Art of Poetry and the main idea of this thesis.Besides,the author reflects on the development and problems of modern Chinese poetry as well as the value and inspiration that The Art of Poetry contains.
