The translation practice source text is selected from Environmental Ethics(2014)written by Robin Attfield.The book consists of seven chapters,which introduces current prominent environmental issues,several controversies about environment,explores the relationship between environment and human nature,population,and sustainable development,and proposes some innovative measures,such as genetic engineering and synthetic biology.Meanwhile,it provides constructive advice for global cooperation of environmental issues.The material is based on chapter five with 14,000 words.The practice report uses a large number of technical terms,long sentences,and parentheses when introducing environmental concepts and new technologies.The author mainly deals with translation cases from the point of vocabulary,sentences,discourse,and English bracket during the translation process.Professional dictionaries,noun vocabulary,Chinese four-character grid,supplementary translation are used to translate words;voice conversion,inversion,and linear translation are used to translate complex and passive sentences;in order to achieve the cohesion and coherence of translation,conjunctions are used to connect two independent parts;reservation,omission,and integrating brackets into the text are used to deal with English brackets.After finishing the translation,the author has a deeper understanding.At first,a translator need learn translation theories,seek knowledge from books,and expand his or her horizon to master knowledge from different fields.In addition,translation is not a day's work,it requires the spirit of artisan to polish the translation.As for the translation of environmental texts,the author studies much relevant knowledge,and also understands the need to ensure the accuracy and readability of translation.By this study,the translator hopes to provide some advice for other related translation practices.
