A Report On The Translation Of The Culture Code:The Secrets Of Highly Successful Groups(Chapters 1-3)

This is a translation report on the book The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups,written by American best-selling author Daniel Coyle,which explores the secrets of some successful groups and reveals some skills in building excellent group culture.The book consists of seventeen chapters,totaling more than sixty thousand words.The translator selects the chapters one-three of the source text to translate with a total of 12000 words or so.In the chapters one-three,focusing on the skill of building safety,the author respectively lists different groups and experiments.At the same time,the original author points out and emphasizes the importance of belonging cues in building safety among groups.In view of the fact that the text puts emphasis on conveying information,with plain language,a proper arrangement,and the readable content,the translator translates the text under the guidance of the Text Typology of Peter Newmark.According to the Text Typology,the translator identifies that the source text features informative function.Therefore,translators should follow the principle of “authenticity first” and mainly adopt communicative translation strategy.The effect of the translation on the target readers should be as equal as that of the original on the source-text readers.At the same time,the translator makes case analysis,using Yan Fu’s criteria of faithfulness,expressiveness,and elegance which are basic principles of translation offering guidance for most translation practice,and combining with relevant translation techniques respectively.This translation report consists of four sections.The first section describes the source of the translation task as well as the text,and the significance of the translation work.The second section focuses on the translation process including the preparation,the first and second drafts and the revised versions as well as the final draft.In the third section,the translator selects 25 typical examples and analysizes the translation text,which is the core part of this report.Throughout the whole translation,the translator realizes the importance of combining the theory and practice of translation.As a qualified translator,he should have a good knowledge of many different fields.Moreover,this translation mainly aims at Chinese enterprise groups workers and future leaders.Therefore,the translator carries on this translation report with the expectation that it can benefit the development of Chinese enterprise groups.
