Nowadays, with the deepening of globalization, the rapid development of science and technology and the increase of international exchanges, interpreting has become a very important means of communication in international exchanges, playing an irreplaceable role in various international occasions. At the same time, the requirement for the quality of interpreting is growing. The interpreter needs to learn relevant methods and has more practice in order to complete the task well.Syntactic linearity is a golden rule in interpreting. But there are few examples of combining the theory of syntactic linearity with practical cases. This interpreting practice report focuses on simultaneous interpreting. The practice report selects Theresa May's speech in Davos as the material. The speech covers the importance of free trade and technological innovation.Theresa May speaks at a normal speed with a standard British accent. However, there are many long and difficult sentences in the speech, which bother the interpreter. If the interpreter can not deal with them properly,he may omit some information or convey wrong information. As a result, the interpreter needs to grasp correct principles and methods as well as practice them more so that he can finish the task well. This practice report is conducted in the form of a simulated speech, which simulates the real scene of the speech. It takes Theresa May's speech in Davos as the text and carries out the practice of simultaneous interpreting from English to Chinese. The practice report will record the simulated interpreting process faithfully and the various links of simulated interpreting, analyze the problems and propose corresponding solutions. This report will analyze the principles and methods of syntactic linearity which are better applied in simultaneous English-Chinese interpreting with specific cases in the speech. Finally, the author puts forward corresponding methods and strategies, including dividing the sentence by sense group, amplification, word conversion and repetition, which can help the interpreter to do a better interpreting job.
