This is a translation project report on Global Perspective on Teacher Motivation,of which chapter Two “Career Motivations of Student Teachers in the Republic of Ireland——Continuity and Change during Educational Reform and ‘Boom to Bust' Economic Times” is the source text.This paper is co-authored by Manuela Heinz,Elaine Keane,Conor Foley.This book is composed of 13 collected papers that present the studies on teachers' teaching motivation in different countries on a global prospective.This report is divided into six chapters: Chapter One is the translation project description,including project background,significance and the structure of the report.Chapter Two is the background of the source text,including the author introduction,main contents of the source text and linguistic features of the source text.Chapter Three is the preparations for the report.Chapter Four is about translation theory.According to the characteristics of academic paper,the translator chooses Newmark's communicative translation theory to guide her translation.Chapter Five is about difficulties in translating and the solutions.As the original text is an academic paper of social science,the author used standardized,rigorous,short words to convey their ideas.Therefore,the difficulties lie in the translation of terminologies,long and difficult sentences as well as its style of writing.etc.This report also makes analysis of the difficult parts from three aspects,that is the lexical,semantic,contextual level.Chapter Six concludes with the lessons,implication and unsolved problems in the translation project.
