This is a report on the English to Chinese translation project of How Children Come to Understand False Beliefs: A Shared Intentionality Account,written by Michael Tomasello,an American psychologist.The source text explains how children come to understand false belief by analyzing children's behaviors in the false-belief tasks.Since there is still no systematic research on children's theory of mind in China,the translator hopes that the translated text will provide some inspiration for experts or researchers in China to develop children's theory of mind,which makes the project meaningful.The source text is an informative text about child psychology.The translator found that the most difficult task in the process of translation was how to deal with long and complex sentences.Thus the translator took the translation of English long and complex sentences as the topic of this report.The translation of informative text should convey the original meaning completely and make the target readers and original readers share same reading experience.The translator aims to seek translation techniques to deal with English long and complex sentences to make the translation convey the original meaning precisely and clearly and conform to Chinese habits of expression,adopting sequence,reversion,division and recasting in the process of translation,under the guidance of Skopos theory and its three rules,that is,the principle of skopos,coherence and fidelity.
