This is a translation project report on The Truth about Teaching: An Evidence-informed Guide for New Teachers by Greg Ashman,of which Chapter 3 “The science of learning” and Chapter 4 “Motivating students” are chosen as the source text.The book,based on practical cases,mainly discusses classroom management,the science of learning,teaching forms and teaching technology,which provides explicit strategies for new teachers when entering classroom.Chapters 3 and 4 respectively discuss the science of learning and motivating students.Theoretically,the source text belongs to informative text which focuses on factual things,information,and opinions according to the three types defined by British translator Peter Newmark.Therefore,communicative translation theory,coupled with several translation skills,can be employed by the project translator in order to make the target text easy to understand.The translation report consists of five chapters.Chapter One briefly introduces the project,including its background,significance,and structure.Chapter Two provides an introduction to the source text,including the introduction to the author,content and the analysis of the source text.Chapter Three is designed to introduce Peter Newmark,and his communicative translation theory.In Chapter Four,detailed descriptions of difficulties encountered by the translator and corresponding solutions guided by communicative translation theory are discussed.Chapter Five summarizes experiences learned from translating and presents problems to be solved.
