Foundations of Education Research: Understanding Theoretical Components was written by Joy Egbert,a professor of Education at Washington State University,Pullman and Sherry Sanden,an assistant professor of early childhood literacy at Illinois State University,and it was republished in the United States in 2019.In this book,the author attempts to present applications for the central components of research by study,so as to provide students with the tools they need to understand existing education research literature and to produce theoretically grounded work of their own..This practice report is based on the translation of chapter 1 to chapter 3 of the book.According to Newmark's text classification theory,the book belongs to informative text.In this book,a large number of long sentences are used,which contain a large amount of information and have a complex structure.We can say that the quality of translation for the long sentences in the book affects the accuracy and the readability of the translation of the whole book.In view of the importance of long-sentences translation,the author makes an analysis of the long-sentences translation encountered in the translation of this book as the main topic in this report,in order to help readers in the field of education to have a clear and deeper understanding of the overview of educational research in the book.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory,the author will select reasonable translation strategies in accordance with the specific features of the original book and use four kinds of concrete translation methods to translate long sentences in such text according to the features of the long sentences in the informative texts and the demands for translation.The translation should conform to Chinese expressions and help readers to deeper understand the information of foundations of education research in the original book,so as to achieve effective interaction.By writing this translation report,the author has gained a deeper understanding of the communicative translation theory and the translation of informative texts.I hope that the experience of this practice can better guide the translation practice in the future,continuously improve my translation ability and also contribute to the translation of informative texts.
