John Cheney, the professor of the University of Michigan, was invited to the College of Foreign Languages of Jilin University to deliver a series of lectures in May,2018.During the visit, the author was the escort interpreter of Prof.Cheney, who showed a great interest in Changchun's history and culture. Therefore, accompanied by the author and guided by a Chinese tour guide,Prof.Cheney visited famous attractions and exhibitions in the Puppet Manchurian Imperial Palace Museum, knowing more about related historical figures and events. The Puppet Manchurian Imperial Palace Museum used to be the palace of Aisin-Gioro Puyi, who was the last emperor of the Qing dynasty as well as the puppet emperor of Manchukuo.Being one of the best-preserved palace relics in China, the museum is the most typically historical evidence of Japan's aggression and fascist colonization in Northeast China. This report aims to reflect on the escort interpreting practice with Prof.Cheney.After obtaining consent from all participants, the author recorded, transcribed and analyzed the whole interpreting process. Therefore, three major problems were identified in this report, namely, difficulties in interpreting culture-loaded words, information loss and redundant interpreting. In addition, this report tries to find out causes for these problems and put forth empirical solutions.Through this practice and reflection, the author hopes to strengthen her interpreting ability, accumulate work experience for future and shed light on similar jobs of other interpreters.
