| This report is based on the consecutive interpretation of the tour guide speech of the Puppet Manchurian Palace. The Chinese tour guide speech of the Puppet Manchurian Palace was interpreted into English for an American teacher.Approved by all related parties, the whole process of the activity was recorded, analyzed and a conclusion was drew on this CI practice. After the activity, the recording was transcribed and analyzed. There are maily three linguistic features from the source text: typical positions and titles bearing characteristics of the time,culturally-loaded words and Chinese four-character idioms and quotes. In the interpreting, three problems caused by these linguistic features emerged: information loss, obscurity in expression, and imbalanced effort distribution.Corresponding solutions given by the author are: prompt explanation, analogy or paraphrase, and application of Salami technique.By reflecting on the recording of this CI practice, the author gets to know more about her problems and makes some proposals for the future interpreting practice. At the same time,it is hoped that this paper could provide some reference for other tour guide speeches of museum and historical spots. |
