Cooperative ability is regarded as one of the basic qualities of talents in the 21st century.English Curriculum Standards(2017)advocate the transformation of learning style from passive reception to active self-directed,cooperative and explorative learning,which has been widely applied in the high school English reading class as a breakthrough and supplement of the traditional teaching.Although many researches have indicated that cooperative learning plays a positive role in creating an active learning atmosphere in class,there are few researches that investigate the current situation of cooperative learning in senior high school English reading class.Therefore,based on Humanistic Theory,Social Constructivism Theory and Hierarchy of Needs Theory,this thesis attempts to investigate the current situation of applying cooperative learning in senior high school English reading class by taking No.2 senior high school in Donggang as a case study.Through classroom observation,questionnaire and interviews,by taking three hundred students as research subjects,this study aims to examine the following two questions:Question 1:What is current situation of implementing cooperative learning in English reading teaching in the investigated schools?Are there any problems in the course of implementing cooperative learning?if yes,what are they?Question 2:What is the effect of implementing cooperative learning in English reading teaching in the investigated schools?This research has arrived at the following conclusions:Cooperative learning is widely used by English teachers in the high school English reading class.But there are still many problems in practical cooperative learning.The teaching content and organizational form of cooperative learning are also loved by most students.English teachers are able to give students the opportunity to think,communicate and present in the process of organizing group collaborative learning.There are two meaningful points for this study.On the one hand,it investigated the current situation and effect of cooperative learning in English reading teaching in senior high school.On the other hand,it attempted to provide a reference for the research and analysis of cooperative learning,which is very important to adopt cooperative learning in senior high school English reading class.
