Ruminant Of Images

This dissertation is a study of the artistic methodology of Peter Doig,who is a contemporary British painter.His creation has a distinct re-creating process of pictures and images combined with subjective feelings,this process is likened to "image rumination".The relationship between photograph and painting is an unavoidable proposition in contemporary art context.Doig’s case demonstrates a possibility of painting creation in the age of images,makes people recognize the value of oil painting again and rethink on the traditional aesthetic values.This dissertation consists of three parts.The first part analyses how he re-created photo images,focus on the formal structure and picture characteristics of Peter Doig’s paintings,.The second part about what the content of his artistic creation is,deals with three typical graphical clues in Peter Doig’s paintings,as well as the spirit behind them.The third part demonstrates Peter Doig’s position in the contemporary art,analyses the reasons and advantages of his artistic creation and then leads to why is he called "the triumph of painting."In general,Peter Doig is able to achieve the shaping of his unique sensory experience through the re-creation of photos and the sublation of traditional aesthetics.That is why his painting transcends mere pictures in the contemporary context.
