A Translation Report On External Evaluation Of Aspects Of IUCN’s Governance

This translation project is from IUCN’s official website which is the annual evaluation of 2015 IUCN management.The author of this thesis is responsible for the translation from the first chapter to the fourth chapter.IUCN is an international organization for the purpose of protecting the natural environment,while China has a close relationship with IUCN.Therefore,it is of great significance to understand the IUCN management and its external evaluation in China,which is beneficial to our country to participate in the related affairs better.At the lexical level,both professional and non-professional words are involved in this text.Attention should be paid to the translation of professional words,especially the normalization and accuracy.The search of the meaning and verification are of equal importance.As for non-professional words,flexible strategies should be employed.The analysis is mainly from the following three aspects:choose the right meaning of words,use four character idioms and transfer the part of speech.At the sentence level,the thesis deals with the long and difficult sentences through changing the voice,adjusting the sentence order and using comprehensive method.At the discourse level,the cohesion of the text is strong,and the thesis pays special attention to the cohesion by making clear of the cohesion relationship to ensure the smoothness of the translation.Through the practice,the author has learned how to deal with the translation of international instruments,and has a deeper understanding in the importance of translation techniques and methods,which will be the guidance for the future work.
