A Report On The Interpreting Task Of 2017 International Design Project

Interpreting is real-time,which requires the interpreter to deal with several tasks at the same time,so balanced energy distribution in different phases is the key to high-quality production.The Effort Model proposed by Gile is quite influential in the circle of interpreting studies in China.Based on Gile's Effort Model,the author writes a report on her consecutive interpreting servicefor the 2017 International Design Project organized by the College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering,Chengdu University of Technology and Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication.Combining real cases in the interpreting task,the author analyzes the barriers she encountered in the interpreting process because of unbalanced energy distribution and proposes corresponding strategies for different phases in interpreting.The author starts the report with an introduction of the 2017 International Design Project regarding its background information and the requirements from the client.Then the author explains her preparation for the interpreting task,including collection of relevant information about the project,terminology collection,psychological preparation and her plans for emergencies in the meeting.The core of the report is about case studies based on Gile's Effort Model.Through analyzing problems,the author met in the interpreting task,the author applies Effort Model in practice.According to cases analysis,the author summarizes the main factors of unbalanced energy distribution,then she proposes some feasible strategies for different phases in interpreting to promote energy distribution efficiency.At last,the author makes a summary of the interpreting task,containing feedback from the client and her supervisor,and her self-reflection and suggestions for future studies.In a nutshell,the report shows that distributing energy in a balanced way is critical for the interpreter to finish an interpreting task well.A wise interpreter knows when to distribute more energy on understanding the source information by figuring out the logic of the information and make predictions according to the text.Aided with non-linguistic knowledge and notes,the interpreter would be able to produce more accurate and efficient translations in interpreting.Besides,the interpreter should know how to behave flexibly according to the on-site situation.To promote efficiency in energy distribution,the interpreter needs constant training and practice in daily life.
