The Standardized Seminar for ASEAN Countries reflects the closer relationship between China and ASEAN countries in enhancing technology transfer and personnel exchanges.Under the strong support from the Department of International Cooperation,Ministry of Science and Technology as well as the Institute of Standards and Technology,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,the Standardized Seminar for ASEAN Countries has been well-developed as a crucial platform for technologies exchanges between China and ASEAN countries.The participants are mainly from different countries' departments related to agriculture,science and technology,industry and commerce.Entrusted by the Institute of Standards and Technology,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangxi Dayi Commercial Service Co.,Ltd.,the author had the great opportunity to be involved in the Standardized Seminar On Solar Energy Technologies for ASEAN Countries(the Seminar for short)which is a subdivision of the Standardized Seminar for ASEAN Countries as the consecutive interpreter on October 19trh,2016.The Seminar consisted of three major sessions:two lectures,question and answer session as well as the field trip.The author cooperated with his classmate and successfully completed the mission.In addition,the author recorded the whole interpreting process for the convenience of the writing of this paper.The Seminar covered heat utilization technology of solar energy in industry and agriculture,application of photovoltaic power generation technology and categories of water heater of solar energy,which was so professional to the author.Therefore,the author faced certain pressure during the interpreting process and encountered many obstacles and challenges.After transcribing the audio record and according to the characteristics of the Seminar,the author has divided this report into five parts.The first part is introduction.The second part is pre-interpreting process.Because of the challenges and difficulties,the author spent most of the pre-interpreting process in short-term preparation for the collection of vocabulary and understanding relevant theories,which he had never learned before.The third part is made of interpreting process and case studies.In case study part,the author mainly focuses on English varieties,logic reorganization as well as long and complex sentences by referring to Daniel Gile's Effort Model and Danica Seleskovitch's Interpretive Theory of Translation and hopefully concludes by providing reasonable coping strategies.The fourth part is about interpreting performance evaluation.After the Seminar,interpreting performance evaluation sheets were given away to the participants by the author specially aiming at collecting feedback about the interpreting.This is very crucial and necessary and could be regarded as one of the most effective ways for an interpreter to improve his or her interpreting skills.The fifth part is conclusion.The author hopes that this paper may provide insights for the other interpreters as guidance and instructions.
