Under the guidance of Daniel Gile's Effort Model, the report explores reasons for unbalanced effort distribution in E-C consecutive interpretation through case studies, which are based on the author's simulated interpretation of IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde Press Conference and Press Briefing: World Economic Outlook,April 2016 during 2016 WB/IMF Spring Meeting. This report is divided into five parts.Chapter one briefs on the source speech and interpretation process respectively, describing the source speech features and how the author develops this dissertation.Chapter two gives an introduction of Daniel Gile's Effort Model and the relevant studies both at home and abroad, acting as the bedrock for case studies.Chapter three focuses on obstacles in each process of interpretation.Based on the analysis of chapter three, chapter four puts forward the relevant corresponding strategies.Chapter five is a summary of this simulated interpretation and lessons drawn from it.As one of the few interpretation theories,Effort Model theory describes improper effort distribution and effort saturation in a scientific way.The solution to optimizing effort distribution varies according to different interpreters. What makes this report distinguished from others lies in its customized corresponding strategies and quantitative evaluation method. The author sincerely hopes that this report can offer some inspirations for the future field interpreting practice and help improve interpretation performance in the future.
