| The ASEAN countries attach importance to cooperation with China and appreciate and participate in the construction of the Belt&Road Initiative.As a result,China-ASEAN will witness more opportunities in economic and trade cooperation in the future.As English is becoming the lingua franca of the ASEAN Economic Community,the translation of English news from ASEAN is particularly important for those who want to understand the latest economic policies of ASEAN.Apart from that,most of the research on English news is based on the news reports of Western media,and there is not much attention to English news in ASEAN countries.Since the news is an important way for us to deepen our understanding of all aspects of ASEAN,the status of news translation cannot be underestimated and worthy of study.In 2018,the author took an internship in the CHINA-ASEAN PANORAMA magazine,working as a translator of the new media department and translating 25 articles from Bangkok Post,Thailand National Newspaper,Thailand Daily,Philstar and other mainstream news websites of Southeast Asian countries.This practice report is based on the essays translated by the author during the internship period.Through the analysis of the translations,the author intends to summarize the errors that are frequently appear in the process of news translation and the character of the language in ASEAN news.All the translation and this paper are guided by the functional equivalence theory.The paper analyzes the translation skills used in the translation practice here,such as literal translation,direct translation and addition.These skills make the target texts fit the requirement and feature of news text.The practice report is divided the case analysis part into three sections,namely,the translation of news headlines,lexical translation and translation of long sentence,thereby analyzing the character of language in news in ASEAN,giving advice on translation skills adopted and providing improvement suggestions. |
