Jean-paul Sartre,as a representative of the French ideological and cultural circles in the 20 th century, earned himself a place in the history of French thought for his contribution to existentialism.Starting from existentialist philosophy,Sartre penetrates his philosophical thoughts into literary theory and literary creation, thus putting forward many unique views on literary theory. These literary views, supported by their philosophical thoughts, have been elevated to the philosophical level,so they are of particular speculative significance. The main content of this paper is to explore Sartre’s view of literature under the guidance of Sartre’s existentialism. This paper mainly discusses the concrete connotation of Sartre’s view of literature around the three important concepts of "imagination" "freedom" and "intervention" in Sartre’s view of literature. The first chapter is the philosophical foundation of Sartre’s existentialism.Sartre’s existentialist view of literature is based on his existentialist philosophy, which permeates into his literary theory, literary writing and literary criticism. Therefore,if we want to have a comprehensive and accurate grasp of his existentialist literary view,we need to start from the philosophical basis of his existentialism.Sartre’s existentialist philosophy was influenced by philosophers such as Hegel,Husserl, and Heidegger. From the study and thinking of the above philosophers’ philosophy,Sartre gave birth to his own unique existential philosophy. For his love of literature,Sartre also put his philosophical thoughts into his thinking of literary theory. Therefore, the study of Sartre’s existentialist view of literature started from his philosophical thoughts, and then left philosophy to explore the specific content of Sartre’s view of literature. The second chapter of the thesis is a study of Sartre’s existentialist literary imagination and freedom from the concepts of "imagination" and "freedom" in Sartre’s existentialist literary view.In Sartre’s view,"imagination" is a tool for literature to combine words.Literature creates a world of beauty by making theworld into something unreal through imagination."Freedom",as another core argument of Sartre’s literary theory, emphasizes that "human",as the core of existence, are free to choose and plan for themselves and their future,so as to realize the true freedom of self. The reason why "freedom" and "imagination" are connected in this paper is that in Sartre’s existentialist thought,"imagination" and "freedom" are inseparable--in the sense that the world demands human freedom, literary works introduce the world in the way of imagination. In addition,Sartre’s "freedom" is a kind of freedom in the "condition".In this state of freedom in the "condition",it is often difficult to achieve true "absolute freedom",but inevitably need to be with others,Society and the times have a connection. The choice of literary creation is a way for writers to "intervene" in society and the times. From this,Sartre puts forward his literary "intervention" theory. The third chapter of the thesis is an exploration of Sartre’s interventional theory of existentialism.Intervention,as the name implies,is an intervention. The "intervention" in Sartre’s literary theory emphasizes that writers should use literature as a "weapon" to realize the purpose of revealing social life and intervening in reality. However,on the issue of "intervention",it should be noted that Sartre’s concept of literary intervention changes with the change of his existentialist concept of freedom, that is,from the indifferent view of participation in the early stage of "absolute freedom" to the positive view of intervention in the later stage of "relative freedom".In addition,Sartre’s literary intervention can be divided into two connotations: political intervention in the narrow sense and literary intervention in the broad sense. In a sense,Sartre’s literary intervention has its positive side of wto accession, but on the other hand,it is wrong to over-correct the active role of literature,so it needs to be critically inherited.Sartre’s literary view differs from other general writers because of its philosophical and speculative significance, and has unique theoretical and social values because of its strong reality and sociality, but it should be noted that Sartre The literary theory should not be blindly agreed or abandoned, and it can be extracted analytically to provide new enlightenment for the literary practice of the new era.
